Hot Topics: Saltbush in Farming Systems

Background

Saltbush used for grazing and revegetation has been a hot topic for many producers. For some, establishing saltbush has provided a substantial benefit to their properties, however this change also represents a considerable cost and long term commitment.

    Saltbush.... so many questions...

  • Is saltbush a cost efficient fodder source for my livestock?
  • How will saltbush effect the performance of my livestock?
  • How will I know when to destock a saltbush stand?
  • Will I need to supplementary feed?
  • What about anti-nutritive factors?
  • Are many producers establishing saltbush?
  • Is saltbush the best solution for revegetation and for addressing salinity issues?
